Magic Holiday Moments

It’s a holiday weekend! Yay! 4 beautiful days together as a family 🙂

4 days with no work, no school, no schedule -just good old fashioned family fun. Sleeping in and taking it easy. What could be better?

I can often be very much of a type A planner. I like to know what’s going to happen along with all the details of how it will unfold. Many times I have used the holidays to schedule tons of activities and play catch up on work. Not this time! I am planning to have 4 days of pure bliss.

Here are my “non plans” for this holiday weekend

2 short runs and 1 long one Of course I LOVE spring running but I also have some new gear to test out from CTR, a local Montreal brand with great looking running gear. Check back for a full review on these items in about a week!

Encourage my children to join me in some peaceful meditation –My little 3 year old princess actually loves this and asks to do it many evenings before bed. My son is 7 and a little skeptical about the whole thing but I’m sure it will grow on him in time.

This is one of my favorites meditation pieces!

Play outside & take my kids on their first bike ride of the season –Montreal is supposed to be 12 degrees tomorrow!

Make plans to catch up with friends –Both out of town friends and local ones!

Celebrate the holidays with my family A great combination of Passover & chocolate Easter eggs

Have 4 consecutive nights of family dinner This is super exciting because normally this only happens once a week. Our business is open 7 days/nights a week and my hubby and I often laugh about how we just pass each other on the driveway most of the time.

Read a new book –Bookstore here I come!

Plan new blog posts and spend time advancing the writing of my own book LOVING this new found passion!

Have a movie night with the kiddies –No explanation needed! 🙂

A little spring cleaning! -Not always fun to do but so lovely once it’s completed!

Although these sound like simple things, they are the makings of MY magic moments. What are your holiday weekend plans? How do you make magic moments?

Wishing Everyone a very Happy Easter and Passover!

Holiday Running

We did it!! We are finally on vacation!

All the stress and preparation from last week has come to an end and the big road trip was completed in record time. My family and I have finally arrived in Connecticut 🙂 There’s nothing like pulling up into the driveway and greeting loved ones you haven’t seen in months, gathering around the table to share food and memories and just plain old relaxing on the couch and catching up on movies.

All of this has the makings for a great holiday season. This and……..NO SNOW!!! So fabulous holiday running here I come! First of all the view from my room this morning was just amazing and inspirational. If this doesn’t get you excited to go outside, nothing will!

I must admit that I bounded out of the house this morning like an overexcited puppy. I just couldn’t wait to get outside and run without slipping on the ice, tripping in heavy snow, avoiding snowplows and wearing 10 layers of clothing! It didn’t even matter that it was raining hard. It was misty, cool and I ran admiring the beauty of nature all around me and enjoying the rain in my face.

I even ran along the beach, drinking in the salty smell of the water. It was one of the loveliest 10km I have ever run! There is a particular joy in running in a new location; not really knowing where you are going, not checking the time, just turning down streets and paths in the hopes of discovering something new and interesting.

I am so grateful for this week and the opportunity I have to be with family during the holidays and run in such an inspiring and beautiful location. This week I will drink it all in, taking advantage of the beauty of this lovely little town and it’s scenery. Each day I will run longer, faster and better than the day before. After 5 days, I will rest for 2 then conquer my upcoming race!!

Wishing everyone a fabulous holiday week and a very Merry Christmas! Hoping Santa is good to all of you tomorrow evening 😉 See you Friday, happy holiday running!

Let the holiday madness begin!

Ahhhh!!! It’s officially the holiday season!

As of today my business is closed for 4 weeks! After working 7 days a week and not having a day off since Thanksgiving (which was the beginning of October here in Canada!) I cannot express how HAPPY and EXCITED I am!

HAPPY 🙂 ….and a little late on everything holiday related!

I now have exactly 1 week to….

  • Buy, wrap and deliver all gifts to the kids school teachers and friends that we won’t see again until after the New Year
  • Attend my kids school holiday shows and parties
  • Celebrate Hanukkah with the family starting tonight
  • Host a holiday dinner for our company teachers & staff
  • Host a holiday party for our competitive dance teams
  • Take my kids to get their photos taken with Santa
  • Kids dentist appointments
  • Buy, wrap and pack all gifts that will travel with us when we visit family in the US for Christmas
  • Do laundry, shop for kids holiday outfits and pack suitcases for all 4 of us
  • Attend a baby shower
  • Take my kids to see the Nutcracker ballet

Oh and did I mention, RUN???? lol, maybe I will simply keep my shoes on and run around between errands!

Luckily I got back on track last week with running and my goal is to get in 3 runs before we head out on Monday for our road trip. So in order to get all these things done, something will have to give…sleep maybe?

Holiday Yoga

Despite the craziness, I truly love the holiday season and all that it brings. I love that I have the best of both worlds as we celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas. I am thankful to have family and friends with whom to share it. My wish for everyone, regardless of what you are celebrating or not celebrating this month, is a happy and healthy season that warms your heart and those you love in a special way!

With this in mind, I am off for my morning run! It’s mild out today only -1, so I am aiming to get in a good 8km. As I run today, my mind will be buzzing with lists, lists and more lists!! Then it’s off to hit the stores and tick those items off the lists. Can’t wait!!

Happy day everyone and Happy Hanukkah tonight to all who celebrate 🙂

My Holiday Wish List

It’s the end of November and the time has come to start thinking about holiday shopping! Shopping at any time of year is one of my favorite activities however holiday shopping absolutely tops my list! I love spending hours online and in stores searching for just the right gifts that my family and friends will enjoy.

However as I start my research and begin shopping for others, I also begin creating my own wish list……teeheehee!! This year much of my wish list is of course running themed. While compiling my own list I noticed that despite the obvious theme, the items I like cover everything from technology to clothing to home decor. You wouldn’t think there are so many running themed things to buy….but there are 🙂 🙂

Here we go…..My Holiday Wish List!

Tech Accessories

I officially lost my iPhone ear buds during Halloween because of course, I dressed up as a runner! 😉 My costume was a full racing get up, complete with a bib pinned on, medal around my neck, fuel belt and my ear buds. I wore this “costume” to work and had a great time until I had to take out the ear buds in order to hear other people speak (what a concept!) and then promptly lost them. Since then I’ve been using the uncomfortable and pretty useless ones from the dollar store. I have officially suffered enough…so Santa…..I need Yurbuds for Christmas please!

A great little stocking stuffer for all runners!

Garmin Watch

Okay so this can be a big ticket item for sure but it is oh so pretty and very useful! This Garmin running watch keeps track of all your running stats, gives feedback and helps to motivate you to do better each time you run. And…it beats getting your regular every day watch all sweaty 😉

Check out their many different styles, there’s one for every price range!

iPhone case

Hmmm….totally not a necessity I know but I recently saw it online and just fell in love…..describes me to a T!

With so many running cases, it’s easy to find one with a favorite quote, photo or even customize your own!

Winter Accessories

Living in Montreal and running in the cold, snowy weather makes these an absolute necessity! Having those little ice picks on the bottom of your running shoes gives you the security and peace of mind to be able to focus on your run and not on trying to avoid the ice. Practicality doesn’t top everyone’s list of favorite gifts but let’s face it, if it’s something you will actually use then it’s a good gift!

Great gift for the winter runner on your list!

Wool Buff

So here’s the thing….it’s not pretty or stylish by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, just add a tuque and you actually look like you are going to rob a bank wearing this thing. You also don’t need one all the time. In fact much of the winter you could probably get away with not wearing one. However…..on those really cold early morning runs when the wind is howling and the snow is blowing and you can feel your nose hairs gluing themselves together…that’s when you need a wool buff!!

Don’t let your favorite runner be caught without one!

Home Decor

Decorative Pillow

I guess I must be a sucker for inspiration lately because this pillow just got to me. It’s the kind of thing that makes you smile AND makes you feel guilty if you were considering not running today! Just the thought of walking past this pretty little item and not going for a run makes me want to lace up right now!

Available in different colors and with various quotes. Find your perfect one today!

Medal & Bib Display

This is a new one for me….now that I have bibs and medals from soon to be 5 races, I have started thinking about how to display my current and future ones. For now they are on the cork board in my office but I wanted to find something a little more special. I am all about inspirational reminders and thought this could be a great way to begin displaying my collection and stay inspired at the same time!

Encourage yourself or a friend to continue their running journey by displaying their achievements!

CustomerBag6      Medal+hanger

So this pretty much sums it up….I love shopping, I love running and together these activities are a match made in heaven!

What’s on your holiday running wish list?

Have a favorite running gadget or item that you love?

Let me know, I’d love to hear from you!! 🙂

Race update!!

Yesterday I registered for the local Resolution Run on December 30th! Yay!!

Okay, so here’s why this is so exciting to me…

I’ve done a few 5km races and recently did my first 10km. I had wanted to get in another 10km before the holidays but haven’t been able to find anything in my area that works with my schedule.

This 5km however is on Mount Royal which is a hill in the center of downtown Montreal. This hill was formed from an ancient extinct volcano and is now covered by a lush forest. Mont Royal is a beautiful location at all times of the year and the views of the city are just fabulous!

View of downtown Montreal from Mount Royal

Racing on the hill not only means elevation to contend with but the time of day will be an interesting factor too. The start time is 5:30pm which means the race will be in complete darkness!

Basically I figured if I can’t get in another 10km why not race on the mountain, in total darkness while the temperature is dropping off for the night? Hahahaa!! I might be losing my mind a little but something about it makes me think it will be fun 🙂

Now I just need to stock up some winter running gear because it will be a nasty form of cold that evening I’m sure. And I will need new treads. Last year’s pair were totally worn down at the end of the season and in no way can you run without them in icy winter conditions. Maybe a headlamp too? lol…what a stylish outfit this will be!

Luckily though I will be able to get in some training on the actual course and I must thank FlRunnerBoy for this idea! He posted recently that this was one of the training methods he used to obtain his latest PR and I am eager to try it out for myself!

As well, this race comes at the perfect time of year to counter balance all the eating and drinking of the holidays!  After a week of Christmas feasting and just before New Year’s Eve drinking time, I can use this race to feel a little better about all the gluttony of the holidays! Though I will need to be disciplined with my training in order to be ready for this race. However I’m okay with that because being disciplined about running is much easier for me than being disciplined about eating and drinking!!

So let the countdown to the Montreal Resolution Run 2014 begin!!
